  • Gastrointestinal Pathology

At Advanced Pathology Solutions, we offer the highest quality gastrointestinal pathology reports on the market. We provide a useful map of the digestive tract that indicates where each biopsy was taken, designating areas of inflammation, malignancy, and dysplasia. We find this allows the patient to visually understand their pathology results, as well as allowing clinicians to quickly scan a summary of important pathology diagnoses. All cancer cases have "CANCER DETECTED" in red at the top of the report, insuring that cancer cases are quickly brought to the attention of all involved in that patient's care. You will also find images of each patient’s histology on the report. Studies have shown that providing a patient with a visual representation can aid in both acceptance and understanding of their diagnosis. This is a valuable communication tool that we believe leads to increased clinician-patient relationships.

All our pathologists have completed fellowships in Gastrointestinal Pathology. They are experts at diagnosing and categorizing primary inflammatory bowel disease. We have a full panel of immunohistochemical stains and chromogenic in situ hybridization on site, allowing us to diagnose autoimmune gastritis, evaluate for CMV and Herpes, and classify neoplasia. We perform universal screening for Lynch syndrome on all newly diagnosed colorectal cancer cases (based on NCI guidelines). If we are not able to provide a test on site, our molecular pathology partners allow us to offer a full complement of molecular testing including KRAS, BRAF, NRAS, PIK3CA. cKIT, HER2 FISH, and many others. We also offer next generation sequencing tests, including OncoDefender, for colorectal cancer, which helps to distinguish between high-risk and low-risk Stage I/II tumors. This is very useful in predicting the risk of recurrence of cancer for these patients.

We strive to offer you the highest in customer service. You will be contacted by phone with every positive cancer diagnosis as well as any unusual/unexpected findings. We do this to ensure that you as providing physician are working on the most up-to-date information at all times in your clinical care of the patient. All of our reports contain the signing pathologist’s email, and we encourage anyone with questions to reach out to the pathologist (including patients). We want to be your partners in delivering the highest quality pathology to you and your patients, and see open communication as one of the most important parts in a quality partnership.

  • Epidermal Nerve Fiber Density (ENFD)

At Advanced Pathology Solutions, we are proud to offer our customers prompt and accurate ENFD Testing. Small fiber neuropathy (SFN) is one of the two types of peripheral neuropathy that affects millions of people in the United States alone. While several tests exist to test for large fiber neuropathy, ENFD Testing is the only objective, measurable tool for determining SFN. There are numerous disorders associated with SFN, including Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, HIV, and Celiac Disease. The majority of symptomatic patients suffering from SFN report sensory loss. ENFD Testing is a trusted technology that has been the “gold standard” for diagnosing SFN for over 15 years.

We send ENFD kits directly to your office upon request. Each kit contains a requisition form, a prepaid Fedex clinical pack; an Accupunch sterile kit (disposable forceps, disposable 3mm punch instrument, a pair of scissors, alcohol and iodine prep pads, a small bandage, and a small square of gauze); and two vials of Zamboni’s fixative. It is very important that we receive specimens in Zamboni’s fixative within 24 hours. Because of the acidic nature of the fixative, the quality of the specimen will be compromised if it is kept in Zamboni’s fixative for longer than a day. If you are not able to send us the biopsy within a 24-hour period, please contact our laboratory for a special ENFD kit.

We strive to offer you the highest in customer service. At Advanced Pathology Solutions, we offer the highest quality full color nerve fiber reports on the market. Studies have shown that providing a patient with a visual representation of their histology can aid in both acceptance and understanding of their diagnosis.
